The Roles of Church, School, and Home
In the Old Testament times God directed His people to instruct children in the Word. To do so, God commanded them "diligently to your children... talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way and when you lie down, and when you rise." (Deuteronomy 6:7) This charge was given not only to parents, but to ALL of Israel. It clearly states that the leaders were to make every effort to let the Word of God be known, to become a part of the lives of the people, including children.
This command to parents and the church is still valid today. The church shares the responsibility of providing Christian training and instruction for children while strengthening and supporting parents in their efforts. Lutheran schools serve as an agency of Christian nurture.
Saint Peter-Immanuel provides an opportunity for students to learn God's Word; to know their Savior, Jesus Christ; and to live in a Christian atmosphere under the influence of Christian teachers.

The Education Process
It is important that the "whole" person be taken into consideration when we think of the educational goals of the child. Therefore, intellectual needs cannot be separated from spiritual needs; emotional development cannot be neglected at the expense of physical development. When dealing with the educational goals of children, we need to think about their total development--socially, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
